Exploring materials

Today we identified and compared the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.

Mrs Marples showed us three different spoons each made of a different material, metal, wood and plastic. We discussed which spoon was most environmentally friendly and when we would use each different spoon and why.

We also listed the ways wood is used as a material such as making tables, chairs, picture frames, floors, table, chairs etc. We thought about why wood is used instead of plastic or glass.

Finally we were split into groups and given a feely bag of different materials. We took turns feeling inside the bag and describing the properties of the chosen material for our friends to guess.
